Tour Bus Route Restriction Law Passes Council

February 25, 2020

LOS ANGELES - Today, the Los Angeles City Council approved a new law that restricts which streets tour buses can operate on in the City of Los Angeles. The new tour bus unsafe route restriction law provides the Los Angeles Department of Transportation with a set of guidelines for designating streets that are unsafe for tour bus operation, and a series of escalating fines for violating the law.

“For far too long, unscrupulous tour bus operators have been putting their passengers and the public at risk by driving up narrow hillside roads that weren’t built for heavy vehicles, making illegal U-turns, and allowing passengers to hop on and off behind blind curves,” Councilmember Ryu said. “We had no way to stop them and keep people safe. After years of working with the State and working with the City, we are finally bringing some common sense safety to this industry.”

“I authored AB 25 to provide cities different tools to guard against reckless tour bus operators, protecting lives and property,” Assemblymember Adrin Nazarian said. “I am happy to have a great local partner in Councilmember Ryu who has shepherded this critical safety measure through LA.”
